Mini Cooper Service Bulletin

14. March, 2007 | by John Moroney

Anybody out there work for Mini? It’s been over two months and Mini has not responded to my little missive.

Firstly, I must apologize to the anonymous sender of an email requesting the Mini service bulletin that deals with the strut tower crown. I lost your email in our recent server move. Please forgive my rather untimely response.

The Mini service bulletin number is: SIM 31 01 05

The bulletin is designed to alert the Mini tech of a cracked rubber bushing at the top of the strut which is caused by the bent crown. The symptoms are: creaking or knocking on bound/rebound or during turning. Mini calls it “accident damage” and it is not covered under warranty, even though the problem is widely documented on the internet. Check out North American Motoring for more information than you’ll probably want about your hot little car.

Thanks to Eric and Patrick at Car Tender in Seattle for the information. There is no one else is Seattle I trust with car, and they have my business. Yes, that was an ad. They rock.

Wow, isn’t it amazing that the old adage about catching flies with honey always holds true? Here am I hyping Car Tender to untold thousands of people and also saying that, in my opinion, Mini Dealer Service couldn’t find its elbow with a map and a flashlight. Anybody out there work for Mini? It’s been over two months and Mini has not responded to my little missive. I’ll publish a response! Are you out there? Hello? Major corporation? BMW North America? Hello!
